Materials and techniques
Introduction
As a general principle, all maintenance and repairs should be carried out on a like-for-like basis using materials and techniques that match those originally used. This will help to ensure that the old and new are compatible in terms of their performance and appearance. Traditional building materials are tried and tested, but like any building product, they can fail if they are not used correctly.
This series of fact sheets is a growing resource that is intended to help explain some of the basic facts about traditional building materials and how they are used.
